Description

Oval-shaped mourning picture depicts a plinth surmounted by an urn, with a willow tree on the left and a kneeling woman in a white Empire-waisted dress and several small houses in the background to the right. The plinth is inscribed (see Inscription field for text). The picture is worked on an ivory silk ground in silk thread using long and short satin stitches, French knots, split and outline stitches with the background and the woman's arms and face filled in with watercolor.
