Drawing
This portrait of the Marrett House in Standish, Maine, was probably made in the 1820s or 1830s, before the 1789 farmhouse was updated with Greek revival details in the 1840s or 1850s. The image shows a well-tended farm with a series of substantial barns and prized cattle in the foreground. This is a sandpaper drawing, a popular art form in the nineteenth century, executed in charcoal on a marble-dusted drawing board.
