"A. Coffin/ 1823" engraved on brass plate on top. A) Rectangular writing desk; exterior veneered in burled wood; mahogany interior. Brass bound on all edges. Interior contains folding writing surface, a row of drawers, and a row of lidded compartments. Hand written label found w/ the piece reads: "Sea writing desk of Capt. Abel Coffin, who sailed from Newburyport and Boston. Owned by great grandson Halland Coffin."
