Description

Black scrapbook of 103 black and white photographs, 1 theatre ticket, 1 Christmas card, and 1 calling card. Most of album are snapshots of a unidentified family and friends. Album shows family life with shots of boating, playing tennis, posing outside, and various automobiles. Appears to be circa 1920-1940 based on clothing style, cars and a limited number of dates on photos. The only family named is the calling card for Mr. and Mrs. Walter Barker, dated April 20, 1921. The location may be somewhere in Maine. There is a photograph of a woman in front of a car with Maine plates dated 1937. Also there are several photographs of a utility vehicle with Venetian Melody Boys, Portland, Maine painted on the side and another photo with an advertisement for a dance party with the Venetian Melody Boys of Portland, Maine. An internet search verifies that the Venetian Melody Boys did perform in Maine in the 1920s. The theatre ticket and Christmas card have no dates nor is the card signed. Of additional interest are snapshots of men in tuxedos and a group shot of the same men photgraphed by Alden, Rochester, NH. These men are possibly members of the Venetian Melody Boys. Also there are two individual shots of a man sitting behind his drum set; one by Porter dated 1924, the other by Barbeau of Oswego, NY. The album has value as a study of style of dress, automobiles and historical record for the period.
