Curved bowl (a) carved as the head of a North African man w/ beard and mustache, wearing a turban. Curved stem (b) of birch is fitted w/ an amber mouthpiece. A twisted silk cord is knotted around bowl and around stem. Accompanying hinged black leather case (c) conforms to shape of bowl and is lined on one side w/ green velvet and the other side w/ blue silk printed w/ label: "AU SHAH DE PERSE/ FQUE DE PIPES/ MARQUE DEPOSEE/ BREVETE. S.G.D.G./ 132. BVARD St GERMAIN. PARIS." Applied label printed "EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE/ PARIS 1889."
