Description

This album belonged to Frederick Law Olmsted, Sr. It contains cartes de visite, mostly of the Olmsted family and friends, including Frederick Law Olmsted himself and Susan Ridley Sedgwick Norton, the wife of Charles Eliot Norton, the noted author, social reformer and Harvard art history professor. Also included are famous individuals, such as General Ulysses S. Grant and other Civil War personalities, the sculptor Bartholdi and Charles Dickens. Photographers represented here are J.L. Judd of Litchfield, Conn. and Frederick Gutekunst of Philadelphia, Penn., each with several photographs. Brady's National Portrait Gallery is represented here with the portrait of General Grant.
