Description

A family album of cabinet photos and cartes de visite from the 1870s-1890s, with a few from earlier periods. Photographers from San Francisco, New York, Boston, Quincy, Reading and Cambridge are represented.

Boston photographers are John Adams Whipple, Babb (unclear whether George W. or Joseph Babb), Cooke (?) and Dunshee (unclear which Dunshee). Augustus Frank Bussell is the Quincy photographer. Emilus J. Randall is from Reading, and Warren's is the Cambridge photographer.

Although most of the photographs are of individuals, there are a few of family groups. There are also portraits of Abraham Lincoln and family, Sarah Bernhardt, Tom Thumb and his wife, Lavinia Warren Stratton. Most are in good condition. Of interest are a visiting card with a gem tintype portrait on it and a portrait taken by Baldwin Coolidge. There are also many photographs of the Sumner family. However, many photos in the album are unidentified.
