This large album has two cartes de visite per page. It is a Civil War period album containing portraits of soldiers in uniform. These are identified as members of the 19th, 34th, 50th (also know as the 7th Massachusetts Volunteer Militia) and 59th Massachusetts regiments. This album has a note in the accession records that says "C.F.B. as a colonel and officers of his regiment."
Of interest here are some war-related photos: a little boy posing in a wrestling suit with a caption that reads, "Young America"; a gem tintype of a little boy in uniform with a pipe in his mouth; and one of a soldier holding a horse. At the back of the album is an index of names of those portrayed in the carte de visites. Famous people pictured included in the album are the actor Edwin Forrest; Secretary of War, Edwin McMasters Stanton; Napoleon; C.C. Felton, president of Harvard University; and Rev. Dr. Briggs. In the back of the album is a news clipping of an obituary for Fanny, Colonel John Hodges, Jr.'s horse.
