Description

Carte de visite album with an inscription in the front reading, "L. Theodore Child, from E.W. Hall, 1862." A slip of paper inside the album states "L.H. Hale, photographer of many of these photos, 293 Washington St., Boston." The names of sitters are written beneath the pictures in calligraphy and there are dates ranging from 1862-1863. Families represented are Child, Gore, Hale, Prescott and Chester. Also included in the album is a photo of John Wilkes Booth, the actor, taken in 1863 (two years before he shot Abraham Lincoln). There are also photos of two men in uniform and one of a woman in black, possibly in mourning.
