A round ink well and a document are in front of him and he holds a quill pen in his right hand. In the background is a bookcase with three shelves, several lettered "Clark" and one "Spirit of the Pilgrims", vol.IV, 1831. It is in a simple dark stained frame.

On a faded white label in pencil is a label from Doll & Richards, Inc. of Boston, MA with the number C47709.
