Fragment of stenciled textile wall covering. Black geometric design in the form of a vertical column stenciled on olive, hand painted ground. The stencil pattern includes palmettes, a medallion and fretwork. The color values of the ground appear to have been modified prior to application of the stencil to enhance the effect of the design. The wall covering was found under several layers of paint during repairs to Commandant's House at the Charlestown (Massachusetts) Naval Yard.
