Description

This album includes one hundred two photographs of "Glenmary" in Newton Lower Falls in the 1880s. Glenmary was the home of the Crehore family. The album includes images of the house interior and the grounds, including gardens, fields, the Charles River, and outbuildings. Many of the images document domestic life in the 1880s, including images of recreational activities (tennis and card playing) and interior furnishings. Included with the album is an inventory of the photographs, all of which have been identified, as well as a glossary of family names and relationships. The images are arranged two-to-a-page, and are numbered in pencil to correspond with the inventory. See images 37 and 38 for details of the snuggery with a hookah pipe, swords, a shotgun, and snow shoes, an excellent example of bachelor quarters of the period. See images 43, 46, 47, 48, 50, 51, 52, and 53 for wallpaper.
