Description

Side chair. Mahogany with birch seat rails and white pine corner blocks. Serpentine crest rail with arched center and pierced central circle. Carved molded ears. Swag and tassel at top of vase shaped pierced splat. Center of splat has figure 8 with looped diamond overlay. Splat seated behind plain shoe with quarter round molded collar. Stiles rounded on back, crest rail has flat back face.Upholstered over seat in gold wool (c. 1976) tacks placed in original tacking pattern.Cabriole front legs with sharp foliate carved knees have punch work stars in the center cusp and around perimeter of carving. Simple knee brackets provide continuation of inside serpentine leg. Ball and claw feet with partially raked talon, no webbing. Rear legs, square beber? Rail has slight flare on side at bottom. Lightly chamfered on inside fore edge. Brackets with serpentine profile for side of rear legs.
