Description

Unfinished needlework picture. Overall picture is a mourning scene of a young woman in Classical dress seated at an urn beneath a willow tree. Embroidery is of silk and wool. Willow tree has satin stitches on trunk, chain stitches and minute french knots for the foliage. The urn and plinth are worked in satin stitches as is the surrounding foliage at the lower right. In the right hand distance is a small town scene. The urn and plinth were meant to be printed or inscribed by hand but remain blank. Silk satin ground. Evidence of pencil cartoon visible. Linen mounting strips whip stitches to left and right edges. Mounting strips have carefull button holes worked on both sides.
