Palmer [Builders' Names] 1881 [When built]; Horatio Hathaway [Owners]; New Bedford [Port belonging to]; 1, 5, 18 [Clubs: New York YC, Atlantic YC, New Bedford YC]" "Among the best known of [the New Bedford Yacht Club's] boats is the schooner Ruth, which was built at Noank, Connecticut, in 1881, by Palmer, for Mr. Watson of New York; she has never been pushed in any races, though she is such a beauty upon the water that one is loth to believe, that when entered for racing purposes her record will not be a good one."
