Of rectangular format, of a woman bent over a neoclassical sarcophogus resting on claw feet on a rusticated base, in a wooded landscape with a foreground stream. There are trees behind and on the side and over the tomb, as well as a vine of roses. She is draped in classical style- white dress and a black robe. Painted in the watercolor on the sarcophogus is: Sacred/to the memory/of/His Excellency/ JOSIAH BARTLETT/Obit May, 1795, AE 65 ys . Also painted, on the edge of the tomb is: In memory of/MARY/consort of/Josiah Bartlett/Obit 14th July 1789/AE 58 ys . The wood backboard is partially covered with the remains of an original newspaper covering, with the date of Nov.7, 1812.
