In pencil across the top of the painted frame reads: The Bottle Nose Branty. Taped to the back of the panel (now in the file folder) is a folded page from the ""Maine Antique Digest"", Aug. 1983. It has an article about an auction which included two portraits by Frantz Fleischbein, a 19th cent. Louisiana painter. The portraits are of two young women, part of the Pugh family(?), a ""great dynasty before the Civil War"". They were purchased by the Louisiana State Museum. NFL's handwritten comment on the newspaper, ""attribution same hand??"" Typed on a jelly label on the back of the panel in the upper right corner is written: Lady from Gloucester, Mass. [there is also an illegible pencil inscription on the bottom center on the back of the panel.
