Description

This scrapbook of clippings, correspondence and receipts relating to a "War ksgiving" celebration in Boston sponsored by the Union Republican State and City Committee on November 18, 1864 was compiled by E.B. Stebbins, West Roxbury, March 12, 1942. Contents date from 1864 and 1882.
The celebration, held just after the presidential election n commemoration of the triumph of the Government, was in part a fundraiser and in part a means of allowing the hospitalized soldiers and sailors to celebrate Thanksgiving. A large segment of the scrapbook consist of letters S.B. Stebbins, Secretary of the Union City Committee, from Colonel Gardiner Tufts.
