Historical/Biographical Note

Historical/Biographical Note

The Sears family of Waltham was connected with the Paine family, also of Waltham, through marriage. The Paine family is in part descended from Thomas Lyman. Although much of the connection between the Sears family and the Lyman family is unknown, the materials in this collection were originally found in the attic of the Sears family home, but they were transferred to the Lyman Estate, through which they came into the possession of Historic New England (then the Society for the Preservation of New England Antiquities).

For more information about the Paine family, visit Stonehurst (www.stonehurstwaltham.org), their family home.

Historic New England's Library & Archives holds a great deal of material related to the Lyman family. For more information, contact the Library & Archives.
