Each earring in this pair is composed of white silk flowers and wax-coated silk orange blossoms with wire stems that are wrapped in cream-colored thread. They attach to the ear with french wires. The pair has a matching orange blossom headdress (.1) and a corsage of orange blossoms and leaves set against a tulle net pouf (.3). The entire group was originally housed in a white paper candy box (.4ab)

"Mementos: Jewelry of Life and Love from Historic New England": For her 1871 wedding to Frank Mason Burrough, Elizabeth Fairbrother wore orange blossoms in her hair, sewn to her dress, and as earrings. A beautifully carved chalcedony cameo was part of her wedding jewelry.
