Description

Wedding jewelry set in original case. Cultured pearl earrings set in gold prong settings with s-shaped ear wire fasteners. Earrings no longer retain their original gold and pearl drops (visible in 1887 photograph of Margaret Duncan Phillips).

Label

"Mementos: Jewelry of Life and Love from Historic New England": Stephen Henry Phillips chose an enormous necklace of gold links from Boston jewelers Shreve, Crump & Low for his bride-to-be. A gold cross pendant and earrings, embellished with natural pearls, completed the set. After their 1871 wedding, Margaret Duncan Phillips wore the cross as a brooch.
