Description

This bar brooch is composed of seven collet-set oval moonstones in a row, mounted on two parallel gold bars at the reverse. The moonstones are slightly graduated in size, with the largest at the center, decreasing in size to either side.

Label

"Mementos: Jewelry of Life and Love from Historic New England": In 1914, at age sixty-seven, Margaret Duncan Phillips traveled around the world. When she arrived in Sri Lanka she acquired several pieces of jewelry, including a set of moonstones, which cost 41 rupees. The minimal settings of this set, which may not include those Sri Lanka moonstones, reflect the style of the early twentieth century.
