Black leather military cap [a] with white feather plume [b] and detachable chin strap [c]. Tall cap has a short narrow brim and a double braid of gold trim suspended around the back. A pair of gold wire tassels hang from left side of cap. Cap has a rectangular metal plaque affixed to the front stamped with the emblem of the United States, an eagle with outstretched wings holding a shield and arrows. Small square hole in top of cap to insert feather plume. Tip of white feather plume [b] has been dyed red. Metal chin strap [c] has small overlapping metal plates secured in the center with a small metal buckle. Chin strap has a leather lining. Ends of the strap have circular disc stamped with a star.
