Description

Three fragments of neoclassical hall wallpaper from Worcester, Massachusetts. The primary motif of the pattern is two parrots perched on top of a basket of flowers and fruit [Fragment A]. In the background is a pattern of repeating small stylized white sprigs [Fragment B]. The paper includes a wide vertical border composed of several geometric patterns with a prominent center band in pink flanked by outer bands in white [Fragment C]. Block-printed in purple, pink, white and green varnish on a mustard yellow ground. These fragments were used to create the reproduction wallpaper "Louise" by Waterhouse Wallhangings and show pencil and ballpoint pen lines and notations that were part of the design process. Certain areas of the pattern have been cut out, joined with tape and lined with construction paper.
