Papers of Reginald Rusden Goodell (1867-1944)

Subseries C, Papers of Reginald Rusden Goodell (1867-1944), 1893-1947, undated (#1.8, 2.4, 3.2, C.2.21-C.2.38, C.3.60, OB.3.10), contains booklets and other printed material; a book contract; certificates; clippings; correspondence and postcards; invitations; calling/visiting cards; notes; receipts; school papers; a scrapbook; a sketchbook; U.S. travel papers and a U.S. passport; and a set of dental x-rays. The correspondence is comprised of letters, invitations, and certificates received by Goodell and a series of physicians' letters (including dental x-rays) regarding the health of Goodell's sister, Louisa Anderson (Goodell) Parker (1871-1952). Among the general correspondence is a 1914 invitation to the Club De La Union in Santiago, Chile; a 1917 invitation to the Boston Opera House in Boston, Massachusetts, for a reception with actress Sarah Bernhardt; an undated invitation from the Governing Board of the Pan American Union regarding a meeting with the delegates to the Second Pan American Scientific Congress in Buenos Aires, Argentina; a 1914 membership certificate into the Mysteries of the Realm acknowledging Goodell's crossing of the Equator; a 1932 letter of acknowledgement from the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts, regarding Goodell's donation of a Moroccan embroidery; a collection of 1914 postcards, presumably from Goodell's pan American trip; and other letters, invitations, and postcards. Some of the correspondence is in French and in Spanish. Included in the school papers are penmanship copybooks; several essays written by Goodell in both English and French; notes from an ethics class (#C.2.33); Goodell's grade book and student roster while a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts; Goodell's 1895 program from the ninetieth commencement ceremonies at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine; and a booklet highlighting a new house for Theta chapter of Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine (#C.2.28). Also included in the subseries are Goodell's U.S. Department of State travel papers and his U.S. passport (including photograph); a book contract with Benjamin H. Sanborn and Company regarding Goodell's book, Elementary Portuguese Commercial Reader; several calling/visiting cards (#C.2.25); a clipping regarding Goodell's 1896 European tour (#C.2.25); clippings containing Goodell's 1944 obituary (#C.2.25); a personalized copy of A. Rambeau's, "Augier's 'L'Aventuriere' of 1848 and 1860" printed in the 1902 December issue of Modern Language Quarterly; receipts for electricity, heat, and oil; an 1807 to 1815 logbook converted into a scrapbook for pasting clippings; and Goodell's 1883 sketchbook of scenes from Cumberland Mills, Maine. The subseries is arranged alphabetically by record type, and thereunder chronologically; school papers are arranged alphabetically by record type, then by topic and/or title, and thereunder chronologically.
