Handmade paper banner

Description

Paper banner or wall hanging with religious motto from the "Worsted" church in Canterbury, New Hampshire. Attributed to Lizzie Monmouth (Elizabeth Harper Monmouth). The banner is oval in shape and made from pieces of decoupaged white paper backed with white fabric. The center of the banner is a large oval printed with a floral bouquet cut from a paper window shade. The shade is roller-printed in orange, white, black and red on olive ground. Foliate medallions, cut from wallpaper, encircle the floral bouquet. Larger foliate medallions surround the edge of the banner. The large and small medallions are roller-printed in brown, red and gold on olive ground and are varnished. Leaves and flowers cut from wallpaper are interspersed around lettering that reads "TRUST NO FUTURE HOWE'ER PLEASANT. LET THE DEAD PAST BURY ITS DEAD. ACT, ACT IN THE LIVING PRESENT HEART WITHIN AND GOD O'ER HEAD." Blue and black paper fringe is attached to the edge of the banner. A wire, covered with brown paper, is attached to the bottom of the banner.
