Description

Design drawing titled "Sideboard of Mahogany in State Dining Room" rendered in pencil on trace. Front view is shown; plan of top is also provided. Neoclassical-style D-shaped sideboard or console table with slightly protruding center section; overhanging top with molding below; two panels on frieze with carved rosettes; carved acanthus leaves above legs; tapered reeded legs with cuffs; and ball feet. Gilded railing at back of top has repeating scrolls topped with palmettes and bellflowers. Two large supports are under table in the form of eagles with outstretched wings.Title is handprinted in pencil. Table was designed for use in the State Dining Room as part of the 1902 White House restoration.
