This series includes correspondence and printed matter belonging to John Codman (1782-1847). Folder 10 contains a letter sent in 1818 to the Selectmen of Boston in reply to a letter from them, refuting their claim that "encumbrances and nuisances" have been erected on his property. He also states that his title to "Codman Wharf" is "unquestionable." Folder 11 contains an undated letter to Codman from Daniel Webster, who sends Codman his best wishes before leaving for Washington. Webster also asks Codman to donate to any charitable cause in his absence. Folder 9 contains a newspaper article about religious controversy from 1812.
