1854-1856
Folder 66
GUSN-295790
This folder contains a travel log from a trip to Europe and Crimea from 1854 through 1856. The journal is an account of the two year trip which included a visit to the front lines of the Crimean War zone. The captain of the vessel which sailed to Crimea was Capt. John Codman (1814-1900). Although this diary is a rather straightforward travel log, it is interest to read because of Codmans lively style and his attention to detail. Of interest are comments that he makes throughout the journal about artists and painting that he has seen.
