Description

This series includes correspondence, diaries, legal papers, maps and drawings, printed matter, and miscellaneous papers belonging to John Codman (1898-1989).Folder 104 contains letters received by J.C. dating from 1927 to 1934 and some undated. Folder 105 contains letters received by J.C. from Lucy Fiske from 1925 to 1927 and some undated. Folders 106, 107, 108, 109, 110, 111, and 112 contain letters received by J.C. from Anna Balch Wheelright Codman from 1926 to 1939 and some undated. Folder 113 contains letters received by J.C. from his mother Sophia Munroe (Smith) Codman from 1929 to 1936. Folder 114 contains a letter received by J.C. from Eliot M. Safford (?) in 1954 which included a deed dated 1820 that mentions the Rev. John Codman (1782-1847). Folder 115 contains letters sent by J.C. to his father William Coombs Codman (1860-1938) dated 1914 through 1916 and some undated. Folders 116, 117, 118, 119, 120, 121, 122, 123, and 124 contain letters sent by J.C. to his mother Sophia Munroe (Smith) Codman dating from 1914 to 1926 and some undated.

Folder 125 contains a daybook from 1922. Folder 126 contains copies of estate papers of J.C.’s mother, Sophia Munroe (Smith) Codman from 1945. Folder 129 contains genealogy charts of the Amory family from 1897. Folder 130 contains material related to the sale of the Newport estate of Maxim Karolik in 1964. Folder 131 contains miscellaneous undated materials. Folder 127 contains a program from the Harvard University commencement of 1802. Folder 128 contains programs, report cards, and a confirmation certificate from St. Paul’s school.
