Description

Photo album titled: "Early Stairs and Doors 65." Title is hand printed on a round paper label affixed to spine; volume number is also printed on a paper label affixed to spine. Album has a heavy textured dark brown covering and is held together with two metal brads. Album has 82 olive green pages; one of the pages is blank. Album contains 81 mounted black-and-white photographs. Photographs include a number of room interiors from the Federal era, focusing primarily on stairways and doors. The album alsco contains photographs of Federal-era house exteriors, also emphasizing the doorways. None of the items shown were manufactured by A. H. Davenport Co., Irving and Casson, or their successor, Irving and Casson - A. H. Davenport Co. The photographs presumably were part of a reference library for the firms. The houses in the photographs are not identified. However, a photograph of the House of Seven Gables (Salem, MA) is on page 69. Additionally, three photos are dated 1911 and are copyrighted by Frank Cousins Art Co. (pages 9, 10, and 46). Seven photographs are dated 1913 and are copyrighted by Frank Cousins (pages 16, 17, 19, 20, 35, 40, 45).
