Series III, John Pierce (1668-1744) papers, 1700/1701-1743 (#1.4-1.7), contains deeds, deed extracts, and the will of John Pierce (1668-1744). The deeds relate to Pierce's acquisition of small land parcels (swampland and upland) in Dorchester, Massachusetts, which were purchased from Stephen Minott; John Minott; and Isaac and Hopestill Humfrey. Extracts from the Proprietor's official records, dated 1698 to 1727, are contained within the document: "A Plan of Lots &c [etc.], &c. [etc.]" The document was written after 1727, presumably by Samuel Pierce (1739-1815), and relates to land held by Robert Pierce (ca.1600-1664), Thomas Pierce (1635-1706), and John Pierce (1668-1744). The series is arranged alphabetically by record type.

John Pierce (1668-1744) was thirty-eight years old when he inherited the Pierce House and home lot after his father's death in 1706. He had married Abigail Thompson (dates unknown) of Braintree thirteen years earlier, and the couple had five surviving children. By the time of Thomas Pierce's death, John and Abigail were already well established with a family and a farm. The couple had two more children, John (1707-1778) and Hannah (1709-1757), and all seven children survived their father and inherited property themselves under the terms of John Pierce's will.
