Series XV, Samuel P. Hawes (1799-1866) papers, undated (#1.81), contains a satirical cartoon drawing, entitled "Grand Entré of the Great History Pole Sea Serpent through the Broad Avenue of the Main Street of Delaware, Ohio," by William Walcutt. The pen and ink drawing made on a long, narrow piece of paper, depicts a comical procession with a long pole. It is inscribed: "Sam Hawes, with compliments of William Walcutt." Nothing is known about William Walcutt or the circumstances surrounding the event depicted in the drawing.
