Architecture

Description

This series contains binders, photographs, articles, correspondence, and research notes, which make up Nina Fletcher Little's research files and writings on New England architecture. The papers reflect Little's particular interest in houses in Brookline and the North Shore of Boston, as well as work of architect and carver Samuel McIntire.

The papers, originally found grouped in one carton, have been arranged by the archival processor into four subseries according to their subject and original housing format. The first subseries contains a variety of research papers on architectural subjects originally stored in alphabetical order in a letterbox; the second contains all of papers related to Samuel McIntire; the third consists of a binder on architectural details; and the final subseries contains articles written by Nina Fletcher Little on architectural topics, which were originally stored loose in the carton.

The letterbox featured alphabetical dividers, with a mixture of loose papers and folders sorted therein. The papers were removed from the letterbox in order to provide archival housing. Their exact arrangement, however, has been preserved. The actual letterbox, located at the end of the collection, now contains only the alphabetical dividers and a handwritten index on the inside cover.
