Description

Design drawing titled "Chair in South Kensington Museum." rendered in watercolor and pencil. Front and side views are shown. Chippendale-style armchair has a carved curved crest rail; fluted stiles; owl-eye pierced back splat; carved arms ending in volutes; curved arm supports; seat with over-the-rail upholstery; one row of metal tacks alongs all edges; raked square rear legs; straight Marlborough front legs with elaborate relief carving; and C-shaped front brackets. Title, dimensions and "Collin (?) 425" are handprinted on drawing. The South Kensington Museum is now known as the Victoria and Albert Museum (London). A chair made by A. H. Davenport Co. based on this drawing is in the Gov. John Langdon House in Portsmouth, NH.
