Subseries A: Geographic locations

Description

This subseries consists of glass plate negatives organized by geographic location. When available, more precise location information and further notes on the type of building or landscape has been transcribed onto the envelopes containing the negatives. The majority of the images are of exterior views taken in Massachusetts. Also included are rural images of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and what appears to be the White Mountains region of New Hampshire. The Boston section contains negatives of the Trinity Church and the former Boston Art Museum in Copley Square. The Deerfield section includes images depicting the exterior views of historic homes in Deerfield with an emphasis on architectural details such as the doorways and facades of buildings. The East Douglas section contains negatives depicting scenes of rural life in Brown's hometown of East Douglas, including images of children in haystacks, farm yards, rural cottages, barns, chicken coops, churches, the town center, and a mill. The Hyde Park section consists primarily of interior views of Christ Church and includes images of the altar, side chapel, windows, and stained and clear glass. The negatives in this section appear to have been taken over a period of time and depict yearly and seasonal changes in altar decorations. The Milton section contains images of rural and farm scenes including images of barns, cottages, and saltbox houses. It also contains numerous negatives of the John Crehore House on Brush Hill Road, a home in which Brown and her family lived. Several negatives are also specifically noted to include exterior views of the Crossman house and farm in Milton, Mass.
