Grain painted maple and ash box of oval form with wooden snap/spring fitted with conforming lid trimmed with dark green paint; the lid also has a metalwire bail handle and cut out ends to fit wooden springs that stand upright at each side; bentwood lap secured with stitched straw or rush; nails around bottom; the graining is finely handled in reddish brown strips of patterning on ochre-yellow ground (top securely snaps shut).
