Description

Design drawing titled "Mahogany Bureau" rendered in pencil on trace. Perspective view is shown. Neoclassical-style bowfront bureau has overhanging top with ovolo front corners; backboard with rolled top and shaped ends on back and part of sides; five drawers in a two-over-three arrangement; inlaid or painted swags and bellflowers on top two drawer fronts; bail handles on lower three drawers; reeded columnar stiles between turned carved ornaments; straight skirt; turned ovoid front feet; and simple bracket rear feet. Round mirror is secured to backboard by two tapered columns with turned finials and rectangular blocks at base. Title, design notes, "Made for J. L. Jones N. Y. 11870 / Job 36497" and "11312" are handwritten on drawing.
