Description

Design drawing titled "Bureau of Mahog." rendered in pencil on trace. Front view is shown; plan of top is also provided. Bowfront bureau has overhanging top; recessed rectangular compartment on top with three shallow drawers; narrow backboard flanking top compartment; five drawers with bail handles in a three-over-two arrangement; key escutcheons on center and lower drawers; square stiles; straight apron; tapered cuffed feet; and inlaid or painted decoration including swags on top center drawer front, and bellflowers and stringing on stiles. Oval mirror is supported by two curving arms with brass urn finials; arm brackets are attached to top compartment. Title, design notes, "A. C. Burrage / Stock 37881" and "11910" are handwritten on drawing.
