Large scale arm chair has tall fully upholstered back with shaped arched crest and fringe or ruffle along lower edge; fully upholstered rectangular seat with single row of metal tacks along lower edge followed by ball fringe; square stiles below back extending into raked rear legs; shaped curved arms with large scrolled handholds; arm supports with plain, fluted and acanthus-carved ovoid turnings; front cabriole legs with ornately carved foliate knees and scrolled base; pad feet; and molded and curved X-stretcher with carved ornamentation at center. Title, design notes and "Mrs. Gratwick / Buffalo" are handwritten drawing. Mrs. Gratwick refers to Martha Weare Gratwick, wife of William H. Gratwick.
