Description

Design drawing titled "Carved Chair Alternative for Music Room' rendered in ink on trace. Front view is shown. Large scale arm chair has tall fully upholstered back with shaped arched crest and fringe or ruffle along lower edge; fully upholstered rectangular seat with single row of metal tacks along lower edge followed by ball fringe; square stiles below back extending into raked rear legs; shaped curved arms with large scrolled handholds; arm supports with plain, fluted and acanthus-carved ovoid turnings; front cabriole legs with ornately carved foliate knees and scrolled base; pad feet; and molded and curved X-stretcher with carved ornamentation at center. Title, design notes and "Mrs. Gratwick / Buffalo" are handwritten drawing. Mrs. Gratwick refers to Martha Weare Gratwick, wife of William H. Gratwick.
