Description

Scrapbook titled "Interiors." Scrapbook has brown cloth covering and leather labels affixed to spine. Rectangular labels are printed in gold with title, "No. 1" and "A. H. Davenport Co." Scrapbook contains 300 pages, seventy-eight of which are blank. The materials in this scrapbook show interiors, mostly from 19th century Europe and the United States, which include stairways, halls, drawing rooms, dining rooms, libraries, doorways, ball rooms, bed rooms, and studios. Locations include cathedrals, city guilds, private residences; studios, universities, royal palaces including Versailles and Fountainbleau; Wadham College, and Landesmuseum (Zurich, Switzerland). Most of the materials are clippings, probably from architecture periodicals, but some are original photographs. There are also a number of reprinted architectural sketches by R. Norman Shaw.

New England buildings depicted include: Emmerton House (Salem, MA); Gov. Langdon House (Portsmouth, NH): Arthur Little House (Boston, MA); Massachusetts State House (Boston, MA); and Isaac Royall House (Medford, MA).
Several items depict the work of A. H. Davenport. Named customers include: New Theatre (New York, NY); Charles F. Sprague (Brookline, MA); University Club (New York, NY); and Cornelius Vanderbilt (Newport, RI).

The table of contents also lists materials concerning the White House; however, these pages (104 through 107) are missing. Digital images of a selection of items from the album are attached to this record.
