Description

Scrapbook titled "English Chairs." Scrapbook has dark brown covering with brown leather spine and corners. Title is stamped in gold on spine; "A. H. Davenport" is stamped in gold on front cover. "749/E23" is handwritten on spine. Scrapbook contains 130 pages, 64 of which are blank. The album contains photographs of English armchairs and side chairs. Also included are examples of sofas, settees, foot stools, and cabinets. There is no identifying information of any kind with most of the photographs. However, the initials "HCD" are handwritten on many of the photographs, Severak photograpahs have peeled away from the page, revealing a stamp on the back indicating that they were taken by Newton W. Elwell, a photographer based in Boston, Massachusetts. It is presumed that these photographs show chairs that wither were imported (not made) by A. H. Davenport Co. or were used as design resources.
