Leonhard Tietz department store building

Description

A view of a storefront under construction on an urban commercial street. Temporary walls around the entrance bear signs for Leonhard Tietz Aktiengesellschaft, or Leonhard Tietz Joint Stock Company. Leonhard Tietz opened the first department store in Stralsund in 1879. By 1891, he had opened a store in Cologne. In 1905, his business became a joint stock company, placing this image sometime in or after 1905. The location of the store is likely in Germany.
