"Dining Room in Blue and Gray"

Description

Elevation titled "Dining Room in Blue and Gray" rendered in ink, watercolor and graphite on textured wove watercolor paper. Drawing depicts one wall of a dining room with two wide window seats below casement windows and flanking a broad fireplace. Fireplace has mantel with molded cornice and dentil molding below; blue and white tiles on surround; and large column on each side. Iron fireback and two simple brass andirons are in fireplace opening. Built-in cupboard above fireplace has three glass doors and two interior shelves. Cupboard and mantel display an array of blue and white porcelain. Windows have deep blue draperies and cornices; window seats are upholstered in same blue. Potted flowering plants are placed on the window sills. Walls and woodwork are pale gray. Floral wallpaper border at top of wall is also in pale gray. Title is handwritten at bottom of drawing. Lower left corner is stamped: "Return to / A. H. Davenport Co. / 96 Washington St. / Boston, Mass."
