Description

A large bound album, about 3/4 full, containing roughly 80 black and white photographs. The album begins with several photographs of the exerior of homes in an unidentified New England town(s), presumably in a countryside area with plots of open grassy land. Two labeled photographs identify " The Old Town House, Marblehead, Mass erected in 1727" and "The Tucker House Marblehead Mass. Built as early as the year 1640". The album then features shots of sailing vessels close to shore and rocky beach scenes. Included in the album are seveal prints by photographer Nathaniel L. Stebbins (1847-1922), namely racing boats c. 1892-3 and 1907 and the USS Kansas and USS Minnesota c. 1906. Prints by photographer Henry Greenwood Peabody (1855-1951) of racing boats in the October 1893 America's Cup are included as contrast to Stebbins' photos. Also included in the album are 4 photographs of Yosemite (featuring Half Dome, Yosemite Falls, and 2 men in an early car); interior shots of an unidentified mansion; 2 photos labeled with a loose slip of paper as the New Ocean House in Swampscott, Massaschusetts; 2 photos of dredging vessels; and , on the last page of the album, a large photo of a cathedral peeking out over a town full of houses, presumably in Europe.
Tucked into the latter quarter of the album are loose photos and documents; a portrait of a smiling child; a newspaper clipping about the "First New England Shoe Factory" established 1786 in Danvers, Massschusetts; and 5 photographs ( tinted blue) of Bausch & Lomb Optical Co. Test Charts, copyright 1892, hand-labeled with the names of various photographic lenses for which each testing chart was used.
