This young girl grew up to be, along with her husband, Bertram Little, a pioneer collector of American antiques and paintings. Their summer home is Cogswell's Grant in Essex, Mass. The artist Claude Potter Newell counted Eleanor and Franklin D. Roosevelt among his sitters. This portrait is based on a photograph, a copy of which is in the accession files.
