This is almost certainly the product of a craftsman working in the early years of the nineteenth century in Vermont. The half sideboard form is typical and may be unique to Vermont. The use of lively maple veneers and contrasting veneered lozenges are also typical. An inscription inside the right cupboard door places the piece in Vermont in the early twentieth century.
"This sideboard is the property of / John N. Lewis, Eva E. Lewis Blye / and Clyde H. Blye, who are the / son, daughter + grandson of John S. Lewis / who was the great grandson of / Mrs. Dr. Alen Thatcher the / original owner." (Black ink)
