The house in the engraving was originally built by Ithiel Town, a Connecitcut architect, to house his library. Austin later enlarged it as the residence of Joseph E. Sheffield, a financier and benefactor of Yale University. Sheffield later bequeathed it to Yale and it became part of the University's science complex until it was demolished in 1957. The item was "Engraved on wood and printed in colors by J.W. Orr, New York."
