Description

Needlework picture of a central female figure in Grecian dress with a palm frond held in her right hand. Left hand holds two staves, one topped with Phrygian cap, the other with the American flag. Surmounting the silk floss flag stripes is a silk applique eagle. Foreground is worked in satin stitch in shades of green to represent plants and vines. The middle ground is a line of french knot worked trees. At the far left is a silk palm tree. Painted sky in two colors. Oval set on a square ground. Ground is made of silk taffeta with a visible selvedge on bottom edge. Pencil inscription at top of oval "Europe". Never mounted.
