Cream-colored cotton twill corset with shoulder straps. Corset front has center front pocket for busk (not extant) with no other shaping visible except for light cords set in center back to stabilize double row of metal grommets for lacing. Flanking the busk and centered over each breast is a slit, now stitched closed. Three sets of thread-bound grommets flank each slit, making it possible for the wearer to open the slits while wearing the corset, possibly to facilitiate breast-feeding an infant.
